四万十川Shimanto River

高知こうち県けんは四国しこくの南部なんぶ、太平洋たいへいように面めんした県けんです。幕末ばくまつの志士しし・坂本さかもと龍りょう馬まの出身しゅっしん地ちとして知しられ、今いまも郷土きょうどの英雄えいゆうとして親したしまれています。日本にほん最後さいごの清流せいりゅうともいわれる四万十川しまんとがわなど豊ゆたかな自然しぜんが広ひろがり、カツオのたたきや、夏なつのよさこい祭まつりでも有名ゆうめいです。

Kochi lies in southern Shikoku, facing the Pacific. Known as the birthplace of the late-Edo patriot Sakamoto Ryoma, it still celebrates him as a local hero. Rich nature spreads across the prefecture, including the Shimanto River—called Japan's last clear stream—and it is famous for seared bonito and the summer Yosakoi festival.

高知こうち県けん（かつての土佐とさ）は、幕末ばくまつに活躍かつやくした志士しし・坂本さかもと龍りょう馬まの出身しゅっしん地ちです。新あたらしい日本にほんを目指めざして奔走ほんそうした龍りょう馬まは今いまも郷土きょうどの英雄えいゆうとして愛あいされ、桂かつら浜はまに立たつ大おおきな銅像どうぞうには多おおくのファンが訪おとずれます。
Kochi, the old province of Tosa, is the birthplace of Sakamoto Ryoma, a leading patriot of the late Edo period. Ryoma, who worked tirelessly toward a new Japan, is still beloved as a local hero, and his large statue on Katsurahama beach draws many fans.

高知こうち県けんの名物めいぶつ「カツオのたたき」は、表面ひょうめんを藁わらの炎ほのおで香こうばしく炙あぶったカツオ料理りょうりです。塩しおやたっぷりの薬味やくみで味あじわうのが定番ていばんで、豪快ごうかいな漁師りょうしの食しょく文化ぶんかを今いまに伝つたえる、土佐とさを代表だいひょうする味覚みかくです。
Kochi's signature "katsuo no tataki" is bonito seared over a straw flame for a smoky aroma. Typically eaten with salt and plenty of condiments, it is a flagship taste of Tosa that carries on the bold food culture of its fishermen.

四万十川しまんとがわは、大おおきなダムがなく美うつくしい水みずを保たもつことから「日本にほん最後さいごの清流せいりゅう」とも呼よばれています。増水ぞうすい時じに水中すいちゅうに沈しずむよう設計せっけいされた「沈下橋ちんかばし」が川かわに架かかり、のどかで昔むかしながらの自然しぜんの風景ふうけいが広ひろがっています。
The Shimanto River is called "Japan's last clear stream" for keeping its beautiful water without any large dams. Low "chinkabashi" bridges designed to submerge during floods cross it, and a tranquil, timeless natural landscape spreads along its banks.

高知こうち市しの「よさこい祭まつり」は、鳴子なるこを手てに音楽おんがくに合あわせて踊おどる、活気かっきあふれる夏なつ祭まつりです。自由じゆうで華はなやかな踊おどりが特徴とくちょうで、今いまでは全国ぜんこく各地かくちに広ひろまり、多おおくの地域ちいきで親したしまれる祭まつりへと発展はってんしています。
Kochi City's Yosakoi Festival is a spirited summer event in which dancers move to music holding wooden "naruko" clappers. Marked by free, dazzling choreography, it has since spread across Japan and grown into a festival enjoyed in many regions.
