山口やまぐち県けんは本州ほんしゅうの最さい西端せいたんに位置いちする県けんです。関門海峡かんもんかいきょうに面めんした下関しものせきはふぐの水揚みずあげで有名ゆうめいで、高級こうきゅう魚ぎょとして親したしまれています。日本にほん最大さいだい級きゅうのカルスト台地だいち・秋吉台あきよしだいや、美うつくしいアーチの錦帯橋きんたいきょうも人気にんきです。幕末ばくまつには長州ちょうしゅう藩はんとして、明治維新めいじいしんの中心ちゅうしん的てきな役割やくわりを果はたしました。

Yamaguchi sits at the western tip of Honshu. Shimonoseki, facing the Kanmon Strait, is famous for landing pufferfish, a prized delicacy. The Akiyoshidai karst plateau—one of Japan's largest—and the elegant arched Kintaikyo bridge are also popular. In the late Edo period, as the Choshu domain, Yamaguchi played a central role in the Meiji Restoration.

本州ほんしゅう最さい西端せいたんの下関しものせき市しは、高級こうきゅう魚ぎょ「ふぐ」の水揚みずあげで全国ぜんこく的てきに有名ゆうめいです。地元じもとでは福ふくを呼よぶよう「ふく」とも呼よばれ、薄うすく切きった刺身さしみ「てっさ」や鍋なべ料理りょうりなど、冬ふゆを代表だいひょうする味覚みかくとして楽たのしまれています。
Shimonoseki, at Honshu's western tip, is famous nationwide for landing the prized fugu pufferfish. Locally it is also called "fuku" to evoke good fortune, and it is enjoyed as a signature winter delicacy in thin "tessa" sashimi and hot pots.

山口やまぐち県けんには、日本にほん最大さいだい級きゅうのカルスト台地だいち「秋吉台あきよしだい」が広ひろがっています。草原そうげんに無数むすうの白しろい岩いわが点在てんざいする独特どくとくの景観けいかんが特徴とくちょうで、地下ちかには日本にほん屈指くっしの規模きぼを誇ほこる巨大きょだいな鍾乳洞しょうにゅうどう「秋芳あきよし洞どう」が広ひろがっています。
Yamaguchi is home to Akiyoshidai, one of Japan's largest karst plateaus. Countless white rocks dotting its grasslands create a distinctive landscape, and beneath it lies Akiyoshido, a vast limestone cave among the biggest in Japan.

岩国いわくに市しの錦帯橋きんたいきょうは、五いつつの美うつくしいアーチが連つらなる木造もくぞうの橋はしです。江戸えど時代じだいに造つくられたこの橋はしは、くぎをほとんど使つかわない精巧せいこうな造つくりで知しられ、桜さくらや紅葉こうようの季節きせつには特とくに多おおくの観光かんこう客きゃくが訪おとずれます。
The Kintaikyo in Iwakuni is a wooden bridge of five graceful arches. Built in the Edo period, it is renowned for its intricate construction using almost no nails, and draws especially large crowds during the cherry-blossom and autumn-leaf seasons.

歴史History
山口やまぐち県けんは、かつて長州ちょうしゅう藩はんが置おかれた地ちで、幕末ばくまつに明治維新めいじいしんを導みちびく中心ちゅうしんとなりました。吉田よしだ松陰しょういんが指導しどうした私塾しじゅく「松下しょうか村塾そんじゅく」からは、伊藤いとう博文ひろぶみなど日本にほんの近代きんだい化かを担になった多おおくの人材じんざいが育そだちました。
Yamaguchi was the seat of the Choshu domain and a driving force behind the Meiji Restoration in the late Edo period. From the Shokasonjuku academy led by Yoshida Shoin came many figures who shaped Japan's modernization, including Ito Hirobumi.
