和歌山わかやま県けんは近畿きんき地方ちほうの南西なんせい部ぶ、紀伊きい半島はんとうに位置いちする県けんです。弘法大師こうぼうだいしが開ひらいた高野山こうやさんや、熊野くまの三山さんざんへと続つづく熊野くまの古道こどうなど、世界せかい遺産いさんの聖地せいちが広ひろがります。温暖おんだんな気候きこうを生いかしたみかんや梅うめの生産せいさんは全国一ぜんこくいちを誇ほこり、白浜しらはま温泉おんせんも人気にんきの観光かんこう地ちです。

Wakayama occupies the Kii Peninsula in the southwest of the Kansai region. World Heritage sacred sites spread across it, from Mt. Koya, founded by the monk Kobo Daishi, to the Kumano Kodo routes leading to the three Kumano shrines. Its mild climate makes it Japan's top producer of mandarin oranges and plums, and Shirahama Onsen is a popular resort.

歴史History
高野山こうやさんは、平安へいあん時代じだいに弘法大師こうぼうだいし（空海くうかい）が開ひらいた真言宗しんごんしゅうの聖地せいちです。標高ひょうこう約やく八はち百ひゃくメートルの山上さんじょうに百ひゃくを超こえる寺院じいんが立ち並たちならび、宿坊しゅくぼうでの宿泊しゅくはくも体験たいけんでき、世界せかい遺産いさんに登録とうろくされています。
Mt. Koya is a sacred center of Shingon Buddhism founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) in the Heian period. More than a hundred temples stand on the plateau some 800 meters high, where visitors can even stay overnight in temple lodgings, and it is inscribed as World Heritage.

熊野くまの古道こどうは、熊野くまの三山さんざんへと続つづく古ふるい参詣さんけいの道みちです。深ふかい森もりの中なかに苔こけむした石畳いしだたみの道みちが続つづき、いにしえの人々ひとびとが歩あるいた祈いのりの道みちとして世界せかい遺産いさんに登録とうろくされ、今いまも多おおくの巡礼じゅんれい者しゃや旅行りょこう者しゃが訪おとずれます。
The Kumano Kodo is an ancient pilgrimage route leading to the three Kumano grand shrines. Moss-covered stone paths wind through deep forest, and as a prayer road walked by people of old it is inscribed as World Heritage, still drawing many pilgrims and travelers.

温暖おんだんな和歌山わかやま県けんは、みかんと梅うめの生産せいさん量りょうがともに日本一にほんいちです。甘あまくてジューシーな有田ありたみかんや、大粒おおつぶでやわらかい「南高梅なんこうばい」の梅干うめぼしは、全国ぜんこく的てきに高たかい人気にんきを誇ほこる和歌山わかやまの代表だいひょう的てきな特産とくさん品ひんです。
Mild-climate Wakayama is Japan's top producer of both mandarin oranges and plums. Sweet, juicy Arida mikan and pickled "Nanko" plums—large and soft—are signature Wakayama products popular across the country.

白浜しらはま温泉おんせんは、白しろい砂浜すなはまの美うつくしいビーチと歴史れきしある温泉おんせんで知しられる、南紀なんきを代表だいひょうする観光かんこう地ちです。海うみに浮うかぶ円月島えんげつとうの夕景ゆうけいや、断崖絶壁だんがいぜっぺきの三段壁さんだんべきなど、雄大ゆうだいな海岸かいがんの景色けしきも楽たのしめます。
Shirahama Onsen, known for its beautiful white-sand beach and historic hot springs, is a leading resort of southern Wakayama. Its dramatic coastline—the sunset over Engetsu Island and the sheer cliffs of Sandanbeki—is another draw.
