Mie is an eastern Kansai prefecture facing the Pacific. It is home to Ise Jingu, regarded as a spiritual home of the Japanese people, which draws many pilgrims. Mie is also known for premium Matsusaka beef, the pearls of the Shima area, and the ninja of Iga, while the World Heritage Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes also pass through it.
