京都きょうと府ふは近畿きんき地方ちほうに位置いちし、千せん年ねん以上いじょうにわたり日本にほんの都みやこが置おかれた歴史れきしある地域ちいきです。金閣寺きんかくじや清水寺きよみずでらなど数すう多おおくの寺社じしゃが世界せかい遺産いさんに登録とうろくされ、伝統でんとう文化ぶんかが今いまも息いきづいています。舞妓まいこや京きょう料理りょうり、和菓子わがしなどの雅みやびな文化ぶんかが受け継うけつがれ、国内外こくないがいから多おおくの観光かんこう客きゃくが訪おとずれます。

Kyoto, in the Kansai region, was Japan's capital for over a thousand years and is steeped in history. Many temples and shrines such as Kinkaku-ji and Kiyomizu-dera are World Heritage sites, and traditional culture still lives on. 京都きょうとは千せん年ねん以上いじょうにわたり日本にほんの都みやこであり、金閣寺きんかくじや清水寺きよみずでら、伏見ふしみ稲荷いなり大社たいしゃなど数すう多おおくの名所めいしょが残のこります。市内しないなどの十じゅう七ななの寺社じしゃや城しろは「古都こと京都きょうとの文化財ぶんかざい」として世界せかい遺産いさんに登録とうろくされています。
Kyoto was Japan's capital for more than a thousand years, and countless landmarks remain—Kinkaku-ji, Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari Shrine, and more. Seventeen temples, shrines, and castles are inscribed together as the World Heritage "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto."

In geisha districts such as Gion, maiko and geiko trained in traditional arts are still active. Their elegant kimono and the old lattice-fronted streets are full of quintessential Kyoto atmosphere, carrying Japan's traditional culture into the present.

Kyoto has a refined food culture, from elegant "kyo-ryori" that brings out ingredients' natural flavors to wagashi sweets made with matcha. Tofu dishes and pickles are also famous, and the beautiful plating reflecting the seasons is a great draw.

市しの西部せいぶにある嵐山あらしやまは、四季しき折々おりおりの自然しぜん美びで知しられる景勝けいしょう地ちです。竹林ちくりんの小径しょうけいや、桂川かつらがわに架かかる渡月橋とげつきょうが有名ゆうめいで、特とくに秋あきの紅葉こうようの季節きせつには、多おおくの観光かんこう客きゃくが美うつくしい景色けしきを楽たのしみに訪おとずれます。
Arashiyama in western Kyoto is a scenic area known for natural beauty in every season. Its bamboo-grove path and the Togetsukyo bridge over the Katsura River are famous, and it draws crowds especially during the autumn foliage.
