永平寺Eihei-ji Temple

福井ふくい県けんは本州ほんしゅうの日本海にほんかい側がわに位置いちする県けんです。恐竜きょうりゅうの化石かせきが数多かずおおく発掘はっくつされることで知しられ、恐竜きょうりゅう博物館はくぶつかんが人気にんきです。冬ふゆの味覚みかく「越前えちぜんがに」や、断崖絶壁だんがいぜっぺきの東尋坊とうじんぼうが有名ゆうめいです。禅ぜんの名刹めいさつ・永平寺えいへいじや、鯖江さばえのめがね作づくりも福井ふくいを代表だいひょうする存在そんざいです。

Fukui lies on the Sea of Japan side of Honshu. Known for the many dinosaur fossils unearthed here, it draws visitors to its dinosaur museum. It is famous for winter Echizen crab and the sheer cliffs of Tojinbo, while the Zen temple Eihei-ji and Sabae's eyeglass making are also signatures of the prefecture.

Fukui is a "dinosaur kingdom" where more dinosaur fossils have been found than anywhere else in Japan. The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum in Katsuyama is among the world's largest, and its dramatic skeletons and exhibits are popular with families.

The snow crab landed in Fukui in winter is called "Echizen crab" and is famous nationwide as a luxury food. Packed with sweet, dense meat, it is the prefecture's proud signature taste of the season.

永平寺えいへいじは、鎌倉かまくら時代じだいに道元どうげんが開ひらいた曹洞宗そうとうしゅうの大本山だいほんざんです。深ふかい森もりに囲かこまれた広大こうだいな境内けいだいでは、今いまも多おおくの修行しゅぎょう僧そうが厳きびしい禅ぜんの修行しゅぎょうに励はげんでおり、静しずかで荘厳そうごんな雰囲気ふんいきが漂ただよっています。
Eihei-ji is a head temple of the Soto Zen school, founded by Dogen in the Kamakura period. On its vast grounds deep in the forest, many monks still undertake rigorous Zen training amid a quiet, solemn atmosphere.
