Shizuoka lies on the Pacific side of Honshu in the Tokai region. Its views of Mt. Fuji, symbol of Japan, are beautiful and inscribed as World Heritage. It is one of the country's leading green-tea producers, with eel and mandarin oranges as further specialties, and its mild Izu and Atami areas are widely loved hot-spring resorts.

Shizuoka is a leading prefecture for viewing Mt. Fuji from the south. Its vistas taking in both sea and mountain are especially beautiful, and scenic spots such as the pine-lined Miho no Matsubara are part of the World Heritage "Fujisan."
